    Radio 4
    “State of the mind” Programme

Marya Burgess, Senior Producer, BBC Radio Documentaries Unit visited Reigate Stepping Stones Social Group on Tuesday, 23rd September 2008 to record members’ experiences on how people with mental health illnesses were treated in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Marya Burgess was very pleased with all the material she gained from the interviews, but could not fit these in and still have room for other contributors’ stories from elsewhere. Moyna Peters has also written down her experiences.

“State of Mind” programme started on Wednesday, 7th January 2009 at 9.00pm and runs for five weeks. Bob Reeves together with Moyna Peters and Peggy Boswell appear in programme 1 and 3 and Muff Chisholm also in programme 3.

Marya Burgess has been approached by Andrew Roberts of the Survivors’ History Group as he is interested in their recordings to be archived by his group. He would possibly use parts of the recorded testimonies as transcripts or audio clips on the group’s website: www.studymore.org.uk and to Moyna’s credit he is also interested in her written experiences regarding her mental health treatment.

The "State of Mind" website is www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/stateofmind/.
